Senator Warren Statement on Department of Treasury’s Response
Washington, DC – United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, ranking member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, and a member of the Senate Finance Committee released the following statement on the Department of Treasury’s responseto her questions for Secretary Bessent on reports that he granted Elon Musk and DOGE access to government payment systems.
“The response from Treasury raises more questions than answers. It asserts that a set of Treasury staff members have “read-only” access but fails to answer questions about non-Treasury employees, like those working for Elon Musk and DOGE. And Treasury’s assertions are inconsistent with multiple public reports. Secretary Bessent needs to explain how this incursion was authorized, who had or has access to critical Treasury systems, and what protections are in place to protect the economy, national security, and Americans’ private data.”
