Readout Of Ranking Member Brown’s Meeting with Pete Buttigieg Nominee To Be Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT)
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs released the following readout after he met with Pete Buttigieg Nominee To Be Secretary of the Department of Transportation by President-elect Biden. If confirmed, Buttigieg would be the first LGBTQ Cabinet secretary in our nation’s history:
“The Department of Transportation will play a pivotal role in getting the COVID-19 crisis under control and restoring the economy. I spoke with Mr. Buttigieg about the need to address our nation’s infrastructure crisis, and to support transportation workers during and after the COVID-19 crisis,” said Senator Brown. “We will need to work together to pass a major infrastructure package and transit reauthorization next Congress so that we can finally have a transportation and infrastructure system that will be robust, sustainable, and equitable for years to come. I also raised Ohio’s rich legacy of transportation innovation and the major transportation needs in Ohio, like replacing the Brent Spence Bridge. Mr. Buttigieg understands the dignity of work. I am confident that as Secretary of DOT, he will give workers a seat at the table and pursue policies that create new jobs here and not abroad.”
