DODD STATEMENT IN IRAN SANCTIONS BILL SIGNING
WASHINGTON -- Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT), co-author of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010 along with House Foreign Affairs Chairman Berman, issued the following statement after President Obama signed the bill into law this evening.
“The government of Iran engages in serious human rights abuses against its own citizens, funds terrorist activity throughout the Middle East, and is pursuing illicit nuclear activities which pose a serious threat to the security of the United States and our allies,” said Dodd. “This bill sends a clear message to Iran -- change your ways or you will suffer serious economic consequences.”
“I look forward to working with President Obama to see that these powerful new tools are used to their fullest potential. I believe that these measures will significantly complement the administration's strong and effective multilateral efforts against Tehran.”
