Brown Statement on the Release of Critical PPP Loan Data

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – released the following statement after news  that U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and The Treasury Department released data on the borrowers of  Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans:

“The Administration releasing this data is a first step that will allow for proper oversight and inform future stimulus plans,” said, Senator Brown. “The American people need and deserve to know where taxpayer money is going and ensure that it goes to the Main Street businesses truly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, not to big corporations, Wall Street, or the President’s friends. I will join my colleagues in pushing for robust oversight and holding the Administration accountable when waste, fraud or abuse is found.”

Brown has long fought to improve  PPP’s efficiency and to ensure that money goes to businesses that need it most—including small minority-owned businesses. He joined his colleagues in pushing the Administration to ensure that lenders are helping small businesses and has pushed the Administration to help small and medium-sized businesses.
