Brown Statement on HUD Inspector General’s Reports on Water Contamination in Assisted-Housing Units
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – today released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Inspector General released reports on water contamination in HUD-assisted communities. The HUD Inspector General’s office report specifically examined Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher communities and Multifamily communities under HUD’s supervision.
“No one should have to worry about the quality of their drinking water- including those living in public or assisted housing,” said Senator Brown. “HUD must do more to address this environmental justice issue that impacts many vulnerable families, particularly children. HUD needs to take a serious look at the recommendations and work closely with EPA to ensure that everyone regardless of where they live has access to safe drinking water.”
