Brown: DACA Recipients are Fully Eligible for FHA Loans
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) - expected incoming Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, released a statement after the Trump Administration announced today that it would extend federally backed mortgages to DACA recipients:
“After spending years confusing borrowers and lenders, at the eleventh hour the Trump Administration finally reversed its discriminatory policy and confirmed what we all know should have been true all along – that DACA recipients are fully eligible for FHA loans,” Brown said. “This should never have been in question, and I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to make sure all aspiring borrowers, including DACA recipients, can access homeownership.”
Senator Brown wrote to HUD in June 2019 to raise concerns about HUD’s abrupt decision to deny access to FHA loans to DACA recipients. He joined a bicameral letter in June 2020 asking the HUD Inspector General urging the Inspector General to review the process by which HUD decided to withhold access to FHA loans to DACA recipients.
