BANKING BRIEF: Senate Banking Dems Launch Substack Focused on Unrigging the American Economy
Inaugural post authored by Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren: “Flashing Red Lights: A Warning for Our Economy”
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs (BHUA) launched a new Substack newsletter a sounding the alarm on the Trump Administration’s dangerous efforts to destabilize the economy and policies to unrig the economy so it works for working families.
The inaugural post, authored by Senator Warren, focuses on the Trump Administration’s reckless misuse of emergency powers and dangerous tariff agenda—policies that threaten to push our economy off a cliff. In the post, Senator Warren also reflects on her early days blogging about predatory mortgage lending and consumer protections in the run-up to the 2008 financial crash.
“Today, I’m writing to ring the alarm again about the flashing red lights that our economy is heading over a cliff, and, once again, could take down millions of working families that are barely hanging on by their fingernails,” wrote Ranking Member Warren. “Unlike 2008 or 2020, today’s economic turmoil is not the direct result of Wall Street recklessness or a once-in-a-generation virus; today’s crisis has been caused by one man: President Donald Trump.”
Future editions of the newsletter will feature original content from Senate Banking Committee Democrats, committee staff, and other lawmakers and economic policy experts.
“This will be a space where the Democrats on the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, alongside key experts and thinkers, open up more conversations about what’s broken in our economy, and how we can fix it. As I wrote in one of my posts almost 20 years ago, this kind of discussion could be democracy at its best,” wrote Ranking Member Warren.
The Banking Committee blog will serve as a platform to explain complex financial issues in plain terms and highlight policies that help unrig the economy for American families. As Republicans in Congress and the Trump Administration pursue policies that benefit Wall Street, big corporations, and the ultra-wealthy, this new platform will spotlight the bold economic vision Senate Democrats are fighting for every day – policies that would rebuild the middle class and advance our economic and national security.
