Brown’s Statement on Military Coup in Burma

“I applaud President Biden’s swift action to sanction Burma’s military authorities responsible for last week’s coup, impose new export controls, cut off key American aid, and freeze certain assets of Burma’s military. We must continue to work with our regional allies to strengthen civil society in Burma and show solidarity with protesters exercising their rights,” said Brown. “By these actions, President Biden has made clear America will not turn a blind eye to this coup and human rights violations in Burma, and the United States will do all we can to hold military authorities there accountable and prevent a repeat of the atrocities against ethnic minorities which took place there in 2017.”

Recently, Senator Brown joined a letter to Secretary Blinken to oppose the military coup that occurred in Burma and to advocate for the democratic rights of the Burmese people.
