Brown Applauds HUD for Halting Dangerous Anti-Trans Trump Rule
Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, issued the following statement regarding the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) announcement of the withdrawal of a rule proposed by the Trump Administration to impede transgender individuals’ access to shelters.
“In Ohio and across the country, transgender people face discrimination and violence, and instead of offering support, the Trump Administration advanced a housing rule that undermined their humanity and their ability to access shelter during a pandemic. The federal government should be ensuring they get the housing and services they need, not funding and reinforcing the cruel idea that transgender people's humanity and rights are second class,” said Brown. “I commend Secretary Marcia Fudge for withdrawing this rule and I look forward to working together to fight discrimination and ensure equal access in housing.”
