Brown Announces Markup on SAFER Banking Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chair of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, announced a markup on the “Secure And Fair Enforcement Regulation Banking Act” or the SAFER Banking Act of 2023. The bill was introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Senator Steve Daines (R-MT), and supported by a bipartisan group of lawmakers. The SAFER Banking Act would allow banks and credit unions to serve cannabis businesses and their workers in states where cannabis is legal.
Brown announced that the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will mark up the SAFER Banking Act on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 9:30 AM.
“The SAFER Banking Act will ensure that small businesses in the cannabis industry can access banking and other financial services, and keep their workers safe,” said Brown. “I look forward to passing this legislation with a bipartisan majority and bringing it to the Senate floor.”
